Time, use, trips, and other factors may cause your carpet to become loose. This isn’t only an unsightly problem; a loose carpet is an accident waiting to happen, which is why it should be dealt with promptly and with the required care. So, in order to help you solve this situation at home, Cleanpro in Portland will share a guide on how you can fix a loose carpet.

What to Do About a Loose Carpet

Get Your Supplies

In order to complete this project successfully, you’ll need:
  • Work gloves
  • Knee kicker
  • Hammer
  • Chisel
  • Pneumatic stapler
  • Carpet cutter

Expose the Tackless

The first thing you’ll want to do is pull the loose end of the carpet back to uncover the tackless that’s under it (the tackless is a piece of wood that has nails sticking out on one side, and tacks sticking out the other).

Set the Tackless in Its New Position

Take the tackless and move it about half an inch to the right of its initial position with the nails facing down. Then, hammer the nails into the ground to create new holes in the floor and to secure its new placement.

Use the Knee Kicker

The knee kicker is a tool that helps you extend the carpet as much as possible, so it’s nice and tight. Go through your carpet with the knee kicker (working towards the loose end) to have a firm and even floor once again.

Cover, Staple and Cut

Place the carpet over the tackless and, with the chisel and hammer, make sure it holds on tight to the tacks. Lastly, staple the carpet to the ground and cut off any excess that may be left.
